The Kusaug Traditional Council, led by Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has officially petitioned the government for the creation of a new region to serve the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region. A delegation representing the Bawku Naba presented the petition to the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, on Friday.
The delegation included Alhaji Azonko Mahamudu, Chief of the Gumbo Divisional Area; Alhaji Osman Kasim, Chief in Charge of Environment; and Mr. John Abugre, a member of the Kusaug Advisory Council.
Alhaji Azonko Mahamudu, who led the team, expressed optimism that the petition would be forwarded to President John Dramani Mahama for consideration.
In response, Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga assured the delegation that their request would be promptly submitted to the Presidency.
“We will ensure that the document reaches His Excellency the President. It is our hope that he will listen to your appeal,” he said.
The minister further noted that the creation of new regions is an administrative measure aimed at deepening decentralization and promoting development, adding that such a move would help harness the area’s potential for socio-economic growth.
