Rescue operations to save a construction worker trapped under a collapsed building at Kasoa New Market in the Central Region have concluded successfully.

It took personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) more than two hours to rescue the victim, who was pinned beneath the debris.

A paramedic team on standby intermittently administered pain relief and other emergency care to keep the worker stable as fire officers carefully removed the rubble.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, sustained a severe leg injury. He was first rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic and later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for advanced treatments.

Two of his coworkers succeeded in escaping the incident unscathed.

Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo Banini, commended the swift response of the rescue teams.

“We are grateful to God and to the team from the Fire Service and the Ambulance Service. They really discharged their duties professionally. A medical team was on standby at the Polyclinic to receive the victim immediately after his rescue,” he said.

The accident occurred when the front section of a residential building under renovation collapsed. The owner, Ali Charles, had reportedly hired three masons to reinforce the structure after noticing cracks.

The Municipal NADMO office and the Works and Engineering Department of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly are expected to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the collapse. Authorities have since cordoned off the affected structure and evacuated all occupants for safety.
